Lesson Title: The Throne – Lesson One: “And the Court Was Seated”
📅 Date: November 23, 2025
📖 Text: Colossians 1:16–17 (NKJV)
I. INTRODUCTION: THE THRONE IS THE CENTER OF EVERYTHING
Everything in creation flows from one central, unshakable reality: the Throne of God.
His throne is not symbolic — it is judicial, governmental, and legal.
Salvation, spiritual warfare, and all Kingdom activity operate through God’s established court system.
Colossians 1:16–17
“For by Him all things were created… whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers… all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”
The throne is the origin, the government, and the sustaining power of all things.
II. GOD’S WILL IS ALREADY DECREED IN HEAVEN
Ephesians 1:9–11
God’s will is:
• Determined – thelēma = desire, decree
• Purposed – protithēmi = pre-set intentions
• Administered – oikonomia = stewardship of His divine plan
• Established – prothesis = foreordained for manifestation
Point:
Everything God has willed was legally decreed before time and is now being administered through Christ’s rulership from the throne.
Truth:
“It’s not being figured out — it’s already been settled in Heaven.”
III. CREATED REALMS: VISIBLE, INVISIBLE, SPIRITUAL, AND STRUCTURAL
Paul outlines the hierarchies and governmental structures that God created:
• Thrones (thronoi) – Seats of authority
• Dominions (kuriotētes) – Territorial jurisdictions
• Principalities (archai) – First-rank rulers, initiators
• Powers (exousiai) – Delegated authority and enforcement
(Ephesians 1:21; Colossians 1:16)
“All things were created through Him and for Him…”
Key Point:
Christ is the source, the goal, and the sustainer of every throne and authority.
“He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” — Col. 1:17
IV. HEAVEN’S GOVERNMENT: THE THRONE AND THE COURT
Psalm 103:19
“The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, and His kingdom rules over all.”
Isaiah 66:1
“Heaven is My throne, earth is My footstool…”
Daniel 7:9–10
“The court was seated, and the books were opened…”
Daniel’s vision reveals a real, functional courtroom in heaven.
• Ancient of Days (Atiq Yomin) – Eternal Judge
• The Court (Din) – Legal assembly (root of Beit Din)
• Books – Legal records, decrees, destinies
Truth:
“In heaven, everything operates in legal order — nothing is random or emotional.
The courtroom governs outcomes.”
V. DECREES & VERDICTS: THE LEGAL LANGUAGE OF THE KINGDOM
Genesis 2:16–17
The Decree = God’s command
The Verdict = “You shall surely die” (legal consequence)
Psalm 119:89
“Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.”
Psalm 89:14
“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne…”
Kingdom Principle:
God’s decrees are not suggestions — they are legal realities.
His throne is upheld by justice and righteousness, making sin a legal violation, not just moral failure.
VI. THE CROSS WAS A LEGAL TRANSACTION
Isaiah 53:5–6
“The LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all…”
2 Corinthians 5:21
“He made Him… to be sin for us…”
Colossians 2:13–14
“…canceling the record of debt… nailing it to the cross.”
Key Revelation:
Christ didn’t just display love — He satisfied justice.
• The verdict of guilt was upheld
• The penalty was paid
• The law was fulfilled
• A new decree was issued: Justified
The cross settled the case.
VII. FROM CONDEMNATION TO ACQUITTAL
Romans 8:1
“There is now no condemnation…”
Romans 3:24–26
“…that He might be just and the justifier…”
Hebrews 12:24
“The blood… speaks better things…”
Revelation 12:10
“The accuser… has been cast down…”
Key Point:
The accuser has lost jurisdiction over those in Christ.
You don’t stand on emotion — you stand on legal grounds.
VIII. JUSTICE AND MERCY KISS AT THE THRONE
Psalm 85:10
“Mercy and truth have met… righteousness and peace have kissed.”
Hebrews 4:16
“Let us come boldly… to the throne of grace…”
The Throne is both:
• A Court of Justice — law is upheld
• A Throne of Grace — mercy is released
“The same throne that issued judgment now releases mercy — because the penalty is paid.”
IX. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS FOR BELIEVERS
You stand on legal ground:
Justification is established by Heaven’s verdict.
You live under a new decree:
“Justified. Righteous. Accepted.”
You silence the accuser:
The blood speaks louder.
You enforce the verdict:
As ambassadors, we enforce Heaven’s rulings on earth (2 Cor. 5:18–20).
X. DECLARATIONS
I approach the throne in faith, not fear.
I stand under a verdict already rendered: Not guilty.
The court is seated, and the books are open.
The penalty has been paid — I have peace with God.
I declare the decree, enforce the verdict, and walk in victory.
The throne has spoken — the case is closed.
