Lesson Title: The Throne – Lesson Two: The Cross Was a Legal Transaction

📅 Date: December 2025

📖 Text: Isaiah 53:6; Colossians 2:13–14

Key Theme

·       The Cross fulfills the legal demands of the Law.

·       Jesus’ death cancels our debt and removes Satan’s right to accuse.

Isaiah 53:6 — Humanity’s Condition

·       All people have wandered (Hebrew: תעה — to wander, err, stagger).

·       LXX Greek: πλανάω — to go off course.

·       Humanity’s wandering is universal and purposeful in God’s plan.

The Septuagint (LXX)

·       Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures.

·       Used by Jesus, apostles, and early Church.

·       Shows the legitimacy of translated Scripture.

Understanding ‘Wander’ (תעה)

·       Appears in Gen 20:13, 21:14, Job 12:25.

·       Describes physical wandering, moral straying, or staggering like one drunk.

·       Wandering in Scripture often leads to God’s deliverance.

Hagar’s Encounter in the Wilderness

·       Hagar abandoned, hopeless, near death.

·       God sees, calls, comforts, provides, restores.

·       Midbar (wilderness) connects to dabar (word).

·       Wilderness = place of revelation and encounter.

Salvation (יְשׁוּעָה)

·       Means deliverance from danger.

·       Related to יָשַׁע — to save.

·       Foreshadows the name Yeshua (Jesus).

Salvation as a Legal Transaction

·       The Cross was planned before creation (Rev 13:8).

·       The Law reveals sin but cannot justify.

·       Christ fulfills the Law and cancels the record of debt (Col 2:13–14).

The Accuser Silenced

·       Satan accused humanity under the Law.

·       Christ’s death ended his legal access.

·       Jesus’ victory cast out the ruler of this world (John 12:31).

Christ Our Standard

·       Sin = missing the mark.

·       Christ, not the 613 commandments, is our target.

·       Believers become new creations (2 Cor 5:17).

Life in the Spirit – Romans 8

·       No condemnation in Christ.

·       Spirit brings life; flesh brings death.

·       We live by the Spirit, not the flesh.

Wandering and Knowing

·       Gen 3:22 — humanity now knows good and evil.

·       Hebrew letters: Ayin (see), Tav (mark), Hey (revelation).

·       ATH = ‘now’ — the time of understanding and response.

Conclusion

·       Wandering is purposeful in God’s plan.

·       The Cross legally satisfied all debts.

·       Satan’s accusations are silenced.

·       Christ is our standard and salvation.
