Driven – Lesson One: The Introduction

📅 Date: February 1, 2026

📖 Text: Genesis 3:1–5

INTRODUCTION

What we have in our text is more than the fall of man.

This was the introduction—not just of sin, but of a system.

To introduce means:

    •    To bring into existence or awareness for the first time

    •    To initiate a process, idea, or system

📌 When we say something was introduced, we are pointing to the early stage of a larger agenda.

THE LARGER AGENDA

Yes—sin entered. And we were all born into sin (Romans 5:12), in need of a Savior.

But what else happened?

Satan planted a drive for autonomy and independence from God—a desire that would build:

• Systems

• Cultures

• Technologies

• And ultimately manifest the kingdom of darkness on the earth

DEFINITION: DRIVEN (ADJECTIVE OF “DRIVE”)

    1.    Motivated or determined by an internal force

    2.    Propelled by a particular source of power or influence

    3.    Characterized by ambition or urgency toward a goal

📌 What happened in Eden was the foundation of a spiritual system built on:

    •    Lust of the flesh

    •    Lust of the eyes

    •    Pride of life

THE KOSMOS SYSTEM

Jesus in John 14:30:

“The ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.”

“World” = Greek kosmos

    •    Not just geography

    •    But an arranged system of seduction, deception, and rebellion

Kosmos (from kosmeō) = to arrange, to adorn (→ cosmetics)

📌 This system looks attractive, but is spiritually toxic

1 John 2:16 – The Three-Fold System

“For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father…”

Genesis 3:6 shows all three:

    •    “Good for food” → Lust of the flesh

    •    “Delight to the eyes” → Lust of the eyes

    •    “Desirable to make one wise” → Pride of life

THE SYSTEM IS MORE THAN PERSONAL SIN

It’s a psychological, cultural, and spiritual structure meant to shape thinking and enthrone self over God.

Satan’s rebellion (Isaiah 14:12–13) was about:

    •    Self-exaltation

    •    Autonomy from God

“I will ascend… I will exalt my throne… I will be like the Most High.”

DEFINITION: AUTONOMY

    •    Auto = self

    •    Nomos = law

→ Self-law or a law unto oneself

📌 Autonomy is the mindset that says:

“I can define truth and purpose without submission to God.”

THE ENEMY’S STRATEGY

Not just to make Adam and Eve disobey—but to make them redefine.

    •    “You will be like God…” (Genesis 3:5)

    •    “You can define good and evil for yourself…”

This birthed a worldview of autonomy, suspicion of God, and rejection of divine authority.

THE SYSTEM CONTINUES: GENESIS 11 – THE TOWER OF BABEL

“Now the whole earth had one language and one speech…” (Gen. 11:1)

Not just vocabulary—shared ideology.

    •    One voice

    •    One ambition

    •    One rebellion

“Let us build… let us make a name for ourselves…” (Gen. 11:4)

KEY ELEMENTS OF BABEL:

    •    Collective identity without God

    •    Global unity in rebellion

    •    Technological advancement for self-exaltation

“They had brick for stone…”

ON TECHNOLOGY

Technology = human invention to solve, shape, or advance influence.

📌 Not evil—but not neutral.

“Technology is a tool. In the wrong hands, it becomes a weapon.”

HUMANISM ON A GLOBAL SCALE

    •    Man building meaning

    •    Seeking security

    •    Chasing legacy

→ Without God

ENTER: BABEL / BABYLON

Genesis 11:9 – God confuses (Hebrew: balal) the language

→ Bavel (Babylon) = confusion, mixing, distortion

Hebrew letters of בָּבֶל (Bavel):

    •    Bet (ב) = house or structure

    •    Vav (ו) = connection, man, bridging heaven & earth

    •    Lamed (ל) = teaching, authority, instruction

Babel is not just a building—it’s a belief system

    •    A man-made house of rebellion

    •    A false connection to heaven

    •    A corrupt instruction system

BABYLON’S AGENDA

A system that:

    •    Mixes truth and lies

    •    Confuses foundations

    •    Promotes false identity, security, and spirituality

It’s postmodernism, secularism, relativism, and deconstructionism wrapped in cultural sophistication.

THE SPIRITUAL BLUEPRINT

Babel is the ideological structure behind what becomes:

    •    Mystery Babylon (Rev. 17–18)

    •    A system of idolatry, seduction, consumption, and false unity

STATEMENT

Babylon isn’t just a place—it’s a plan.

It is the spirit of the age.

THE DRIVEN CULTURE

Humanity is being driven—motivated and moved by:

    •    The lust of the flesh

    •    The lust of the eyes

    •    The pride of life

Satan’s goal:

→ To construct a kingdom without God

→ Through autonomy, identity confusion, and false unity

THE CYCLE:

    •    Autonomy → Confusion (Babylon) → Judgment (Revelation)

CLOSING POINT

Jesus has already revealed the plan in advance:

Revelation 17–18 shows the fall of Babylon

Revelation 19 shows the victory of Christ
